Do not suppress Kashmir protests

“It is our firm belief that when (the Kashmiri) people are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their cause, then nothing can stop them from reaching their destination,” Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit told the weekly news briefing.

In provocative comments, Basit also spoke about Indian forces “brutally” trying to deal with the agitation in the Valley. The Kashmiri people were “resolved to get their right to self-determination no matter how brutally Indian security forces try to suppress their legitimate struggle,” Basit said.

He was responding to a question on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s call to Kashmiri youth to end violent protests. It is high time India read the writing on the wall, Basit said.
Yet to decide on Indian aid

Brushing aside US suggestion that it accept India’s aid offer for its flood victims, Pakistan on Thursday said it will do what it believes is “right” while it is yet to decide on the $5 million assistance extended by New Delhi.

The remarks came as Manmohan Singh called his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani offering more assistance to handle devastation caused by the deluge, the worst in 80 years. No decision has been made in this regard, Basit said.

Pakistan not on Obama itinerary

US President Barack Obama has no plans to travel to Pakistan when he visits India and other Asian nations in November this year, PTI reports. “I haven’t heard any discussion of that,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said when asked if there was any chance that the president might add Pakistan to his itinerary.
