The road stretching from Channasandra to Thirumalashettyhalli in Kadugodi in East Bengaluru is turning out to be a nightmare for local residents.

They find it a challenge to ride through the crater-size potholes and negotiate lose gravel along the road that stretches for a few kilometres. Residents and authorities say that craters dug during the KC Valley project were not filled properly.

Residents accuse the authorities of resorting only to temporary measures and not laying a proper road. They held a silent protest on June 10, urging the authorities to repair the road.

"Following the protest, the BBMP began spreading the jelly and stopped with that. We are planning to conduct a signature campaign on Saturday and Sunday at Thirumalashettyhalli Cross and let our voices be heard," said Uttam Marathe, a resident staying close to Thirumalashettyhalli Cross.

The road straddling Kadugodi ward and Hoskote taluk is a crucial link for 20 to 30 villages in the area to Whitefield, Kadugodi and the rest of the city. "Two accidents have been reported on the road in a month. Three trucks were stuck in the road in the night recently and were stranded till morning. The already dilapidated road became even worse after the KC Valley project," said Arun Gowda, a resident.

Kadugodi corporator S Muniswamy said the road gets repeatedly damaged due to the rain, despite works being carried out several times. "When we wanted to mend it again, the KC Valley project delayed it," he lamented.

"The project left deeper craters since the holes dug for the pipeline work weren't closed properly. We've filled the holes and spread jelly. We'll soon begin the work to lay the road with tar," Muniswamy added.

Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali said funds for the road repair work and Channasandra bridge have been released. "We'll begin the work soon," he added.
