Bollywood singer Shruti Pathak lent her voice to the popular song 'Mar Jawaan' from 'Fashion' which still remains a favourite among many. It's been a decade since and she is now one of industry's leading female singers.
.
She's back again with 'Soniye Dil Nayi' from 'Baaghi 2' starring Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani. The song has been topping the charts and she couldn't be happier.
.
She chats with Anila Kurian about her successes so far and what she's looking forward to in the future.
.
How are you enjoying your success of the new song 'Soniye Dil Nayi' from 'Baaghi 2'?
.
I'm loving it, especially because it is well-received by many out there. I keep getting videos of singers who have done cover versions of the song and that itself speaks volumes.
.
Does social media bring you closer to your fans?
.
Of course! Social media is a task for me since I am not too active on it, but I am working on that. I feel that it's the perfect way to connect with your audience and know how they feel.
.
What other Bollywood projects are you working on?
.
I do have a few songs that will be releasing this year but I can't talk about them till they are finalised. Apart from that, I am also working on my single which will be released in a month's time. I love working on singles as the process is completely different from working for a movie. You aren't bound by the script or the situation; it's just an expression of the work you believe in.
.
How do you describe your sound?
.
What matters most to me is the kind of music I grew up listening to - ghazals, classical and semi-classical. I am a trained classical singer so my style is largely influenced by that. I use those elements in my music. For example, my new single, which will be released soon, has a Punjabi-folk-Sufi flavour to it.
.
Since you are a trained classical singer, is it challenging to sing Bollywood numbers?
.
Not at all. I believe that if you are trained, you will be able to do justice to any kind of song. Your way of imagining the song also changes. If anything, I think my training as only helped me evolve.
.
'Mar Jawaan' from 'Fashion' is still trending. How do you feel about that?
.
I'm very lucky to have sung the songs I have done so far. Many singers still send across cover versions of the songs which I am very happy about.
.
Would you be impressed if some of your popular songs were recreated?
.
I wouldn't mind as long as they are done well. I think it's great if someone wants to recreate it because it shows that it's been received well. I will have that sense of pride and happiness. Having said that, recreating songs should not be the only thing we are doing. We should also make new songs.
.

What's your second favourite passion?
.
I love traveling and exploring new places.
