The Karnataka High Court stayed the transfer of investigation of a case involving N R Santosh, personal assistant of BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) from the Mahalakshmi Layout police.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Santosh who has moved the court seeking quashing of the order directing the transfer of investigation to the CCB.

Santosh was the prime suspect in the attempt to kidnap Vinay Bidre, a former personal assistant to MLA KS Eshwarappa in May 2017.

The Mahalakshmi Layout police, who registered the case, filed a charge sheet against 12 persons, including Santosh, with a request for further investigation.

In his complaint to Mahalakshmi Layout police station on May 11, 2017, Vinay had stated that N R Santosh and others had abducted him.

The police commissioner, on January 24, had ordered the CCB to continue further probe in the case. The CCB had then issued a notice to Santosh to be present before the assistant police commissioner for enquiry.

Aggrieved by the notice, Santosh had approached the court.
