CBI team inspects Bellary mining areas, stockyards

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing ore theft case at Belekeri port, visited a few mining areas and stockyards here on Saturday.

As many as 22 mining companies are facing charges in the disappearance of more than 50,000 tonnes of iron ore from the Belekeri port. The CBI is investigating the case, as per the Supreme Court directions. The team of officials from the Economics Offences Wing of the CBI visited Bharata Rayana Harivu Hospet in Bellary district, a few mining areas in Ramgadh forest area of Sandur taluk, and also a few iron ore stockyards in the district.

Investigative visit

The team visited Muneer Enterprises, Dalmia, R P Mines, Ramrao Pol, S B Minerals, Ashwathnarayan Minerals and others, and collected details pertaining to mining activities and details of the ore transported from the stockyards. The team also sought details of the ore transported from S B Minerals stockyard owned by former minister Anand Singh and also details of the e-permit.

Team members

Hemanth Priyadarshi, Joint Director, CBI Economic Offences, Mumbai Zone, Ten Moli, SP, Economic Offences, Chennai Branch, CBI SP Subrahmanyeshwara Rao, Investigation Officer, and others were part of the team.

Sources said the CBI officers were planning to interrogate a few ore transporters and also a few traders engaged in ore business, to garner more information.
