Dakshin Kannada received 1464.22 crore under Karnataka's five guarantee schemes

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority President Bharath Mundodi said that the district is in 21st position in the implementation of Yuvanidhi — one of the five guarantee schemes in the state.

One of the reasons for the poor performance of the district is that the majority of the students pursue their higher education as colleges at the taluk level also offer PG programmes in the district.

The district had given emphasis to education since the beginning. Further, some of the graduates join small time jobs soon after their graduation. Another reason is that the unemployed youth have to submit a declaration every month that they have not joined any employment.

A total of 4,240 beneficiaries have applied under the Yuvanidhi scheme. Of which, 3,643 have received a total of Rs 3.87 core till October end. The verification of the applications are still in progress.

The president said that the district has received a total of 1464.22 crore till the end of September under five guarantee schemes and the amount has been directly credited to the account of the beneficiaries.

Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a sum of Rs 943.41 crore has been credited to the accounts of 3,72,300 beneficiaries. A total of 6.79 crore women have travelled on KSRTC buses under Shakti scheme and Rs 219.86 crore has been credited to KSRTC.

Under Anna Bhagya, Rs 15.24 crore has been credited to the accounts of BPL card holders. The district has achieved 98% under Gruha Jyothi scheme with Rs 558.9 crore has been credited to Mescom.

Mundodi also said that opposition parties, including the BJP, have been spreading false information on development work being 'stalled' due to the lack of funds. "If that is the case, how has our state's GDP ranked top in the country?" he asked.

He added, “Under guarantee scheme, no one receives commission. The funds are directly deposited into the accounts of eligible beneficiaries. No one will go bankrupt because of these schemes."

Over 4600 beneficiaries could not avail the benefit under Gruha Lakshmi due to the issues pertaining to IT returns. In reality, the majority of these are genuine poor women who are being deprived of the facilities.

While availing the bank loan for construction of houses, beneficiaries were asked to submit IT Returns. As a result, beneficiaries did not get the funds they were entitled to. Further, when people failed to link PAN and Aadhaar, they were asked to pay a fine of Rs 1,000, when they tried to link it, which is shown as IT Returns on the IT website. “These IT related issues were discussed at the state level meeting as well," Mundodi said.
