Dharmasthala mass burial: IO seeks permission to conduct brain mapping clearance with witness consent

Mangaluru: The investigating officer in the Dharmasthala mass burial case has submitted a report to the court seeking permission to conduct brain mapping, fingerprint analysis, and narco-analysis tests, subject to the consent of the complainant witness, said Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K.

The SP further stated that the investigating officer recently learned that a petition related to the case had already been filed in the Supreme Court. However, this information had not been disclosed by the witness complainant or advocates representing him. The matter is currently being verified.

The SP said local intelligence inputs indicate that the witness complainant may abscond once the exhumation process is completed. It is suspected that this may be why there is an urgency to conduct the exhumation process without adhering to standard procedures. The concern has also been conveyed to the witness’s advocate, the SP added.

He assured that the exhumation will be conducted only when the investigation officer considers it appropriate within the course of the investigation by following all legal procedures.
