<p>Mangaluru: The delay in approving facilities for the beneficiaries of government schemes, or the victims of natural disasters, under the pretext of lack of documents is unacceptable, said Speaker U T Khader.</p><p>He was speaking at a meeting convened at the Srinivas Mallya Auditorium at the Mangalore University on Wednesday to discuss drinking water projects and flood/drought management in Ullal taluk. </p>.I acted in the interest of Finance Bill: Karnataka Speaker Khader on 18 MLAs suspension.<p>He asked officials to visit affected areas, analyse situations and ensure immediate relief for victims. "However, there have been complaints from the public about delays in disbursing relief due to lack of documents. This issue must be addressed immediately, and relief distribution should be expedited."</p><p>Gram Panchayats and urban local bodies must work in coordination with the Revenue Department, he said. </p><p>"There have been complaints that even after submitting gram panchayat door number documents, the authorities are demanding a habitation certificate to provide electricity connections in rural areas. This is causing unnecessary delays," he said and said, once the house construction was completed, obtaining a completion certificate from the gram panchayat should be sufficient for providing an electricity connection.</p><p>He said temporary sheds or sheet-covered stalls should not be allowed on the sides of PWD roads. However, he asked the PWD officials to ensure that street and pushcart vendors were not harassed.</p><p>"The Ullal Uroos, which takes place once in 5 years, is set to begin this month. Properly maintain and upgrade all major roads, as devotees from different parts of the country are expected to attend," he told PWD officials.</p><p>Regarding the Tokkottu-Mudipu road widening project, Khader said works on drains and footpath would be taken up after completing the four-lane works.</p><p>Khader directed officials to initiate the tender process for the construction of a bridge across the Nethravathi river between Sajipa and Thumbe.</p><p>"All the issues pertaining to laying pipelines and construction of tanks under the Jal Jeevan Mission should be solved within 15 days by the officials after visiting respective gram panchayats," he said.</p><p>The officials should identify the landslide prone areas well in advance and take precautionary measures.
