Emotion of joy flies sky-high at State-level kite festival

“I believe I can fly/ I believe I can touch the sky” R Kelly song seem to echo in the hearts of enthusiasts at Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium on Sunday.

The sky was dotted with kites of all sizes and shapes. The birds were taken by surprise at the flying objects in the sky and some even appeared to match their flights.

Filling the air

The kite-flying began slowly and within moments, the entire sky was filled with numerous colourful kites of different sizes and shape. 

Some children were keen on flying their kites high while a few others were seen letting them free, chasing the thread and catching them later. 

A few children were being helped by their parents and other elderly persons who had come with them, though a majority of the children were flying the kites independently under the supervision of the elders.

Messages

Some of the participants wrote a social message on their kites to creating awareness on various issues such as atrocities on women. 

One kite had the slogan on the importance of literacy. Another round kite had a face of a tiger with ‘Save tiger; campaing, yet another round kite had a symbol of a scorpions warning on the harmful effect of tobacco. Another kite exhorted people to ride cycles and save petrol. Some kites carried pictures of national leaders. 

Some kites took the shape of bird, man and bus. Some kites had a long tail attached to it.

The kite festival was organised by Karnataka Janapada Parishat. This was the 25th edition of the kite festival. The kite festival is held every year in different part of the state.
