<p>Bangalore Agriculture University vice-chancellor K Narayanagowda warned unless youth were encouraged to take up agriculture, the country would face food crisis in future.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Speaking at the inauguration of the new building for the agriculture college at Karekere in Hassan taluk on Tuesday, he said youth were shunning agriculture as they feel the income was less.<br /><br />“As the pressure on cities is increasing, agriculture activities are reducing in villages. If food production decreases, the country would have to face a bleak future. <br /><br />Schemes should be introduced by ensuring that agricultural activity improves. Karekere Agriculture Centre is focussing on three aspects — teaching, research and extension,” he added.<br /><br />MLA H D Revanna said the government’s move to bring Hassan Agriculture College under Shimoga Agriculture University would be opposed. <br /><br />He said agriculture and horticulture department were ‘dead’, but ex-chief minister H D Kumaraswamy strived to revive the two departments. However, the present government is not releasing funds, causing inconvenience to farmers, he said.<br /><br />College dean M A Shankar, MLC Patel Shivaram, former Rajya Sabha MP H K Javaregowda, deputy commissioner K P Mohanraj, Athihalli Devaraj, veterinary college principal Dr Vasanth Shetty and others were present.</p>
