Fire engulfs plastic bags warehouse in Mangaluru; damages house adjacent to it

Mangaluru: An accidental fire in a warehouse that had stocked plastic bags damaged the entire structure and also a house adjacent to the godown, at Badakabail in Bantwal taluk on Monday late night.

C R Ranganath, Regional Fire Officer, Mangaluru range said soon after receiving the information, fire tender from Kadri fire station rushed to the spot along with Bantwal fire station tender.

Water from a nearby well was also used for dousing the fire. As houses were situated in the surrounding areas, the fire personnel checked the spread of fire to the houses, he said.

The fire and emergency service personnel received a distressed call at 11:20 pm. The warehouse was owned by Abdul Khader.

As the godown was of asbestos sheet roofing, the complete structure collapsed. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, the owner of the godown has claimed that it was due to a short circuit.
