Miscreants have poisoned the water of River Seetha near Doobala in Heruru Gram Panchayat limit, killing thousands of fish.

Fish were found dead in the river on Monday morning. Women who came to wash clothes at the river noticed the dead fish and alerted the villagers.

Unidentified miscreants have mixed copper sulphate into the river water.

Along with fish, other aquatic creatures were also found dead. The people in the neighbouring villages use the water for drinking.

Jayapura Nadakatcheri revenue inspectors Nagaraj, Ramya, Pallavi, police personnel and Heruru Gram Panchayat development officer Mahesh conducted a spot inspection.

Gram Panchayat member Amjad has submitted a complaint to Jayapura police station and demanded action against the wrongdoers.

People of the village have also urged for action against the coffee estate owners who have been releasing effluents from coffee pulping units directly into the stream.
