<p>Ballari: Former chairman of Legislative Council and ex-president of Veerashaiva Mahasabha N Tippanna (97) died due to age-related issues at his house in Ballari on Friday morning.</p>.<p>The mortal remains of Tippanna were kept at his Gandhinagar residence in Ballari for the public viewing. Union minister V Somanna, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, Sandur MLA Annapurna Tukaram among others paid their last respects to the departed soul.</p>.<p>Three-time MLC, Tippanna has served as leader of the opposition in the Council and as a chairman for a brief period.</p>.<p>An associate of former CM Ramakrishna Hegde, Tippanna had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Bellary, on Janata Dal ticket, against former Union minister Basavarajeshwari. After the split, he joined Janata Dal (Secular) and served as its state president.</p>.<p>In 2012, he was elected as state president of Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha and served as the president of Veerashaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha.</p>.<p>Tippanna is survived by a son. He will be laid to rest at his native Turuvanuru in Chitradurga district on Saturday, according to the family sources.</p>
