Four killed in bridge collapse

Four labourers were killed and seven others were injured after a bridge under construction collapsed on the outskirts of Mangsuli village in Athani taluk, on Thursday.

The bridge was being constructed under the Ainapur lift irrigation scheme.

 The injured were shifted to a private hospital in Miraj for treatment.

The work had been allocated to Aditya Constructions based in Belgaum, police said.

Shamalu Sheshan, 45, resident of Aryapatti in Andhra Pradesh and Laxman Chavan, 35, a resident of Muddebihal in Bijapur district were killed on the spot while Tirupati, 25, and Srishail, 45, residents of Mehboob Nagar in Andhra Pradesh succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The local residents said that the bridge collapsed due to sub-standard work.
