Congress govt ignored Justice Das commission’s recommendations: BJP

Bengaluru: The internal reservation matrix approved by the state Cabinet on August 19 ignores several key recommendations made by the Justice H N Nagmohan Das Commission, alleged Scheduled Caste (SC) leaders from the BJP.

Chitradurga MP Govind Karjol urged the state Cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on September 4, to approve and implement the report submitted by the Justice Das Commission or J C Madhuswamy report if the government wanted to ensure social justice.

Accusing the Congress government of ignoring the interests and welfare of the nomadic communities, Karjol said, “We will launch a state-wide stir to protest this flawed internal reservation matrix from Wednesday. The Congress government has ignored the Supreme Court’s directive, and the classification system employed by the government is clearly politically motivated. Given the confusion surrounding this issue, recruitment to various government departments that have begun must be halted immediately.”

The BJP’s internal reservation matrix, which recommended 6% reservation for the Madiga community, 5.5% to the Chalavadis, 4.5% to Lambanis/Bovis/Korama-Korcha and 1% for nomadic tribes had met with broader community acceptance, claimed Karjol. “The Congress government spent Rs 150 crore on the Justice Das report, only to discard it,” said Karjol.

Former Union Minister A Narayanaswamy accused the Congress government of betraying the Madiga community. “Siddaramaiah has classified nomadic tribes with ‘touchable’ castes, and failed to follow Constitutional principles,” said Narayanaswamy.
