Even after a delay of eight months, the laying of the four-lane road between Gun House Circle and Truck Terminal, is not yet complete. The authorities claim that the works will be completed within 15 days.

The stretch is out of bounds for vehicular movement since April 2016 as it was expected to be completed in November 2017. The Public Works Department (PWD) had sanctioned Rs 17 crore for the upgrading of the 1.1 km stretch.

According to the authorities, the works were delayed due to certain reasons, including heavy rainfall in the month of May, and construction of the overbridge on M G Road.

An officer said that the final works are pending and the road will be opened for vehicular movement in 15 days. The works were stopped for a few days due to heavy rainfall. Now, the works have resumed. Construction works of the median and asphalting works are under progress, he added.

Though the works were scheduled to commence in April 2016, it got delayed for a few months because the Forest department objected to the uprooting of the trees. “Removing of the trees and shifting of electric poles took a lot of time, he said.

He said due to the construction of the overbridge above M G Road, there was a delay. Initially, it was planned to use precast concrete for the construction of the overbridge but, the plan changed to rolled concrete.

Due to the closure of the M G Road, near the overbridge, patients visiting the JSS Hospital are suffering a lot. Even vegetable vendors on Doddakere Maidana are experiencing huge losses.

The officer said that asphalting works from Gun House Circle to the overbridge has been completed and a few works are pending between the overbridge to the Truck Terminal. Due to the rainfall, it was not possible to asphalt the stretch. As rains subsided, the works have commenced and it will be completed in another 15 days, an officer said.
