<p>The distribution of smart cards to all Koraga families, the dream project of Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) is in final stage and the officials have directed the taluk-level wardens to collect the data of remaining 149 Koraga families of Dakshina Kannada district within October. <br /><br /></p>.<p>According to the information available, the smart cards have already been distributed to more than 3,862 Koraga community individuals. “However, we are facing problem in collecting details of around 149 Koraga families. Many families at Kerala border live a life of nomads. Whenever officials go to collect information, they couldn’t meet any of the family members to get information. We are hoping to complete the data collection process within October,” ITDP Project Co-ordinator Sabir Ahmed Mulla told Deccan Herald.<br /> <br />In the district, there are around 1,206 Koraga families including 774 families in Mangalore (urban-271, rural-503), 185 families in Bantwal, 100 in Puttur, 35 in Sullia and 113 families in Beltangady taluk. “We wanted to finish it by September, but at the end, barriers are more. Officials even face language problem,” he said. <br /><br />Smart card would help Koragas to avail health benefits in various hospitals including KMC, Father Muller’s, AJ, Yenepoya, Srinivas, Global Hospital of Mangalore, City Hospital of Puttur, Benaka Hospital of Ujire, Abhaya of Beltangady and KVG Hospital of Sullia.<br /><br /> Cards also help to avail any other facilities which are being offered by ITDP for Koragas. <br />Those who have not got smart cards can claim health benefits at recognised hospitals using a letter from the department, he added. <br /><br />Workshop begins<br /><br />An education workshop for Koraga students belonging to Class 8 to Class 10 has been inaugurated at Central Model Residential School at Madhya Padavu in Surathkal on October 2. The workshop inaugurated by Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bawa would continue till October 22. In the workshop organised in association with Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), students will learn on various things which would nurture their character. <br /><br /></p>
