<p class="bodytext">Mangalore Customs Commissionerate with jurisdiction over New Mangalore and Karwar Ports recorded a revenue of Rs 2,791 crore up to December 31, 2018.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Imamuddin Ahmed, additional commissioner of Customs, Mangalore Customs Commissionerate, said the total revenue is 12% ahead of the target of Rs 2,485 crore fixed for the financial year 2018-19. “The revenue is 44% higher than the total revenue achieved in the previous financial year,” he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He was speaking at the International Customs Day programme organised on the premises of New Customs House in Panambur on Friday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Ahmed said trust-based compliance is established for ensuring ease of doing business.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Under the risk management system (RMS), 63% of Bill of Entry (imports) and 96% of shipping bills (exports) were cleared on the basis of self-assessment. “Such consignments are not subjected to any examination,” he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">On passenger facilitation, Ahmed said that over 98.07% passengers had opted for ‘Green Channel’ facility (who are not having any dutiable goods). The online Customs guide for international passengers has been found useful to passengers and travel agencies, he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said the commissionerate has taken steps to protect the departmental land across the coast by installing a fence around them. The renovation of the Old Port Office in Bunder will be completed in this financial year, he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">During this year, 101 anti-smuggling cases, involving a total value of Rs 11.417 crore, have been detected. Nearly 80% of the cases (nearly Rs 10 crore) were related to the smuggling of gold, he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Nitte University Chancellor N Vinaya Hegde urged the Union government to help patients by exempting surgical and medical equipment from customs duty.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Awards were presented to Adani Wilmar private limited (top revenue contributor), M K Agrotech private limited (growth in revenue contribution), Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited (highest export performance), KIOCL (second highest in exports) and Olam Agro India private limited (for growth in exports).</p>.<p class="bodytext">Commendation Certificates were presented outstanding officers. including Superintendent of Police P Chandrashekara Bhat, Manoj Kumar N, Inspector E P Surendran, Vishwanath and B S Gowramma.</p>.<p class="bodytext">MAHE former VC B M Hegde was present on the occasion.</p>
