A diesel-laden tanker turned turtle at Bollaru on NH 75 on Saturday. As the diesel started leaking, local residents rushed to the spot with buckets, cans and bottles to collect the ‘free’ diesel.
The tanker, which was plying to Bengaluru from Mangaluru, toppled after the driver lost control over the vehicle.
The driver, Mahesh, from Hassan, sustained minor injuries.
As people in the area and drivers of passing vehicles rushed to fill containers they could lay their hands on, police had to resort to mild lathi-charge in order to disperse the crowd.
