IAS officer begins probe into allegations on teacher in Mangaluru

Terming the incident at the school as unfortunate, the Minister said that an IAS officer is probing into the allegations and will submit a report to the government.

Mangaluru: Additional Commissioner of department of school education and literacy, Kalaburagi division Dr Akash Shankar has begun inquiry into allegations on derogatory remarks made by a teacher of St Gerosa English Higher Primary School in Mangaluru, on Monday.

He said that he will complete the inquiry at the earliest and will submit a report to the state government. “As the inquiry is in progress, I do not wish to reveal anything. I will make an honest effort to conduct an inquiry and will submit the report to the government,” he told mediapersons.

“I have come to Mangaluru as a part of fact finding on the incident and held meetings with the officials. Concerned officers have briefed me and furnished me with the preliminary information,” he said.

He had held a meeting with the officials from the department at the DDPI office in Mangaluru.

It may be recalled that parents claimed that a class seven teacher made derogatory remarks while taking up a lesson “Work is Worship.” Following a day-long protest led by Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyasa Kamath in front of the school on February 12, the school authorities suspended teacher Sr Prabha. Based on a complaint, the Mangaluru South Police had registered an FIR against Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru City North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell and others in connection with the protest. Later, the government appointed Dr Akash Shankar to probe into the allegations.
