<p class="bodytext">Food and Civil Supplies Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan on Tuesday said that the department’s senior deputy director in Mysuru, K Rameshwarappa has been suspended from service following the theft of 1,165 quintal of rice, 36 quintal of tur dal and 196 quintal of wheat from the Nanjangud godown.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Khan said the department has also filed FIRs against depot manager Mylari and computer operator Basavaraju in this regard.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The minister said no final decision had been arrived at with regard to supplying seven kg rice under Anna Bhagya scheme and that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would take a final call on the matter.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“My wish is to continue with the earlier scheme of disbursing 7 kg rice to the beneficiaries. But the chief minister has to take a final call on this. It’s not possible to say anything for sure without knowing what the chief minister’s intentions are. He has, however, said that the quantum will not be reduced from 7 kg to 5 kg,” he told reporters in Bengaluru.</p>.<p class="CrossHead"><span class="bold">Wakf controversy</span></p>.<p class="bodytext">Khan, who is also the Wakf Minister said that he had not done a U-turn with regard to ordering a CBI probe into encroachment of Wakf properties in the state. Khan had landed himself in a tight spot in the Legislative Council recently, when he said that he was willing to order a CBI probe, only to retract his statement shortly after.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The BJP has demanded that the government take action against the encroachers of Wakf properties, as named in the Karnataka State Minorities Commission report that was submitted by its then chairman Anwar Manippady in March 2012. Khan said that the matter was before the court and hence a probe could not be ordered at this juncture.</p>
