Parameshwara directs police to up quality of investigations

Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday mandated each police staff member to master at least one special policing skill this year and tasked the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of police recruitment to monitor the initiative.

“Give them options of learning investigation, crowd management, cybercrime, social media monitoring, and intelligence collection. Their performance should be reflected in their annual records,” Parameshwara told the recruitment ADGP, adding that this will lead us to a professionally equipped police force.

Parameshwara mentioned this during the second day of the annual police conference held at the State Police Headquarters. He has set a few objectives that need to be achieved in the course of the year.

The Home Minister strictly ordered the police to work on the ground and make themselves visible in uniform during peak hours, especially covering sensitive areas. He has directed the traffic police deployment on the field even before school buses start plying.

The police department has also been instructed to improve the quality of investigations without neglecting paperwork. Investigators are now bound to hold regular meetings with prosecutors to fight cases better.

Additionally, all superintendents of police and deputy commissioners of police must call at least one police station visitor randomly daily for their feedback. The move is aimed at making the common man welcome to police stations.

Parameshwara emphasised that police should compulsorily hold SC/ST meetings and Jana Samparka Sabhe, a public outreach programme.

Other objectives set for the rest of the year 

1. Proactive booking of NDPS cases. He stressed that both peddlers and consumers must be booked.
2. More awareness campaigns against drugs
3. No tolerance against hate speech and social media posts inciting hatred and violence 
4. Reducing deaths in road accidents by 10%.

5. Fixing blackspots in the state where numerous accidents unfold.
