Parts of Karnataka receive scattered rain; two die in separate incidents

Showers, accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds, continued to lash several parts of the state as two people, including a woman, died in rain-related incidents on Tuesday.

Sunita Kanthesh Lamani (34) died on the spot when a tin roof blown away by strong winds struck her at Ingaleshwar village in Basavana Bagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district on Tuesday evening. The deceased woman, a native of LT Koppa in Muddebihal taluk was plucking onions at a field when the incident occurred. The Basavana Bagewadi police have registered a case.

In another rain-related death reported from Amingad in Bagalkot district, Mehboobsab Talikoti (35) died when a portion of the compound wall of the PWD office collapsed on him. The victim was taking shelter near the compound when the skies opened up. 

The tin roofs of three classrooms of the government higher primary school at Gudumakeri village near Sattigeri, Belagavi district, were blown away in the strong winds that swept the village. No casualties were reported since the school was closed for summer vacation.

The vehicular movement on Belagavi-Bagalkot state highway was affected for hours due to tree falls on the stretch.

Occupants of a moving car had a close shave after a massive tree fell on it at Beeravu Gajigar Palke in Moodbidri taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, on Tuesday. The traffic on Moodbidri-BC Road was hit for an hour following the uprooting of electricity poles and trees. The farmers had a tough time in protecting the harvested paddy following two spells of sharp rain, coupled with gusty winds, lashed Kavital and surrounding villages in Raichur district.

Hubballi-Dharwad twin cities also experienced a brief spell of showers in the afternoon.
