Consultation meeting turns into grievances meeting

The pre-budget consultation meeting organised by the CMC to receive suggestions from the public to prepare budget for 2019-20 turned into a grievances meeting here on Wednesday.

Only a handful of people participated in the consultation meeting. Six people aired their grievances on the lack of facilities in the layouts.

Speaking on the occasion, CMC President Shilpa Rajashekar called upon the cooperation of the public to maintain the city. The use of banned plastic should be avoided, she added.

Vice President Sudheer lamented that instead of discussing the new projects, the meeting has turned into a Janspandana meeting.

An amount of Rs 1.5 crore sanctioned under SFC grant has been earmarked for Indira canteens. As a result, the revenue of the CMC has reduced. There is a need to mobilise the resources by the CMC through various sources, he said.

Commissioner M V Tusharamani said, “Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme, two mini parks will be developed. There was opposition from the public for the construction of public toilets near Town Canteen, Shareefgalli and near Milana theatre.”

She said that stray dogs and pigs cannot be culled as per the law. The stray dogs will be sterilised. The agency is paid Rs 1,500 for each sterilising dog. Medicines that are fed after the sterilisation are expensive, which is borne by the CMC, she added.

BSP district unit president K T Radhakrishna said, “A multi-story commercial complex should be constructed near the place where flowers are sold on M G Road.

Senior citizen Nanjunda Rao said, “The CMC should convene meetings of various associations and organisations in each ward, to discuss on the problems haunting the ward and later prepare a budget.”

Lakshmisha Nagara resident Chennakeshava appealed to the CMC to earmark funds for the development of parks and extension of community halls. There is a need to check the stray dog and pig menace in the town, he added.

The public urged the CMC to develop Ambedkar Circle on Market Road and initiate action against those marriage halls and lodges that fail to provide parking space to its customers and construct public toilets at strategic locations.

The public also urged the CMC to prevent people and vehicle owners from washing clothes and vehicles near the water tank at Shankarapura.
