Monnangeri residents demand rightful compensation

Second Monnangeri residents have alleged that out of the 840 identified victims of natural calamity, houses are being built for only 350 to 400 families.

Submitting a memorandum at the DC’s office in Madikeri on Friday, the Monnangeri residents said, “There are thousands of affected families who have lost their houses. But only 840 people have been listed by the district administration.”

“The left out eligible victims should be included in the list soon so that the houseless will get the facility. The rehabilitation works are already hit by procrastination in the first place,” said Dhananjaya, one of the victims.

Even though the chief minister had promised completion of the construction of houses within three months, the work has not been completed even after seven months. At the current pace, the work may not be complete even after one year.

Also, there was an assurance of providing monthly rent allowance of Rs 10,000 to the houseless. The assistance has not reached the deserving. The compensation amount has not been provided either, complained residents.

Monnangeri resident Lokesh said that the woes of the real victims of the natural calamity have fallen on deaf ears. A major number of houseless victims have been deprived of compensation. Officials have not visited the houses which have been damaged to a huge extent.
