Mysuru: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) state president Abdul Majeed said that his party members will hold a ‘Chalo Belagavi Ambedkar Jatha’, to demand for various social justice benefits for Ahinda communities.

AHINDA is the acronym for Alpasankyatha (minorities), Hindulida (backward) and Dalit (Scheduled Castes), coined by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in 2005.

Addressing a media conference, in Mysuru, on Monday, Majeed said that SDPI members will gather in huge numbers at Belagavi on December 16, during the Karnataka Legislative Winter Session, to press for their demands.
.Farmers' 'jatha' will march to Delhi from Shambhu border on Friday, says leader Sarwan Pandher.
“The jatha will be held under the leadership of SDPI state general secretary B R Bhaskar Prasad and will be launched in Udupi on December 10. It will cover Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Haveri, Koppal, Bagalkote, Hubballi, Dharwad and reach Belagavi on December 16.

False claims by CM

Majeed said that Siddaramaiah’s claims to be the champion of Ahinda communities are ultimately hollow words and nothing more. “His is a coward government. He and his government are afraid of the BJP and leaders of the upper castes. Despite knowing well that the Ahinda communities are the vote bank of the Congress, they are not safeguarding the people of these communities, who constitute 70% of the total population of Karnataka,” he said.

Majeed said, “Among one crore Muslim population, there are 70 lakh voters in Karnataka. Among them, 55 lakh voters exercised their franchise and 50 lakh of them voted for the Congress, resulting in a resounding victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly election. Thus, 30% of the total vote share of the Congress in the 2023 Assembly poll is that of Muslims. Similarly, voters of Ahinda communities, especially Muslims (92%), effected the victory of the Congress in the recent bypoll, in three Assembly constituencies”.

Demands

The demands include implementation of internal quota for Scheduled Castes, on the basis of Justice A J Sadashiva Commission; resumption of reservation to Muslims under 2B category and increase from 4% to 8%; publishing and implementation of the report of H Kantharaj Commission on social and educational survey of Backward Classes; passing of a resolution in the Karnataka Legislature, not to pass the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Parliament; not to divert 24.1% funds under SCP/TSP to implement the five guarantee schemes; allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for the minorities in the 2025-26 Karnataka Budget; and reservation in jobs in the private sector.

Majeed said, “Once, Siddaramaiah announced that he will release Rs 10,000 crore for Muslim. But, he immediately amended it and said that he meant it, for five years, following questions by the media. He proposed quota in the private sector, but rolled back, immediately after opposition. He has been telling that the notification of Waqf lands will be withdrawn, following BJP propaganda. As per the Supreme Court ruling, a Waqf property is for ever and the government cannot interfere. The problem can be solved, if the government allots alternative land to either the Waqf Board or the farmer in question”.

Quota to Muslims

Deputy CM D K Shivakumar had stated, during the 2023 election campaign, that the day the Congress assumes office, 2B reservation to Muslims will be resumed. “But, so far, nobody, including Muslim ministers and MLAs, is speaking on the issue,” Majeed pointed out.
