Sound, mild tremor scare at Attikodige

Villagers were terrified when they heard abnormally strange sounds of an explosion from beneath the earth in Attikodige Gram Panchayat limits in Koppa taluk on Friday morning.

The people in Attikodige and Shanti villages ran out of their houses at 9.40 am, after hearing the loud sounds emerging from the underground.

Ramachandra of Hosanela said that the sounds are being heard from the last three months. Tremors are also felt on such occasions, added.

These sounds are heard from a particular place at Attikodige Panchayat limits within a stretch of 4 to 5 km. The locals have submitted a written complaint to Koppa tahsildar in this connection and the officer had conducted an inspection at the spot on June 21.

“A letter has been sent to the State Natural Disaster Management Centre, Bengaluru, 20 days ago. When the centre was alerted on Friday, the authorities have assured of conducting an inspection at Kogre,” Mines and Geology Department Scientist Dayanand said.
