‘Marathon provided opportunity to experience landscape’

Hayden Hawks from the United States of America won the first place in Coffee Day Malnad Ultra Marathon in the 50-km category.

He said that running in the hilly ranges amid coffee estate was a thrilling experience.

Hayden said that the experience provided him an opportunity to experience the landscape of Malnad.

He shared his experiences in the Coffee land with DH.

How did you feel running in the hilly area?

It was a challenge to run amid forest, hilly ranges and steep curves.

The weather was pleasant in the morning. As the sun shine increased, I felt tired.

The Coffee land is really a wonder. The greenery, water bodies gave me a source of inspiration.

I will participate in the marathon next year as well.

Have you participated in the marathon in the past?

This is for the first time that I participated in the Ultra marathon in India.

I had participated in Ultra marathon in Italy and Spain and had won awards.

How did you develop interest in marathons?

I was interested in trekking and running from my childhood. I used to trek along with my father.

Over a period of time, running became my passion. I have a degree from Southern Utah University and have been trained by experts.

On present day generation’s interest in Ultra marathon!

Youth have been attracted towards Ultra marathon. Various companies are encouraging the same by sponsoring them.

One can enjoy the beauty of nature by participating in such marathon competitions.

How did you prepare for the marathon?

One needs to maintain the speed in steep curves, hilly ranges. Fast and slow running is not good.

One needs to practice daily to get better.
