JD(S) state vice president H H Devaraj said that the Union budget has neglected coffee, arecanut, coconut and horticulture crops. By announcing financial assistance of Rs 6,000 per farmer, the Centre has insulted the farming community.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, he said the budget has no mention on farm implements and fertilisers. The budget was anti-farmer in nature.

He said the budget has also neglected farmers, labourers, Dalits and minorities. The budget has not announced anything for the coffee growers.

He accused MP Shobha Karandlaje of failing to respond to the problems of Chikkamagaluru.

"Chikkamagaluru CMC has handed over the contract for garbage collection without inviting tender for the same. The contract should be suspended and a probe should be conducted into it. The JD(S) will submit a complaint to the district in-charge minister, urban development minister and MLC," he added.
