'Unjust and condemnable': Kuvempu University Vice Chancellor on claims of pension grants by Karnataka govt

Shivamogga: Reacting to University of Mysore Vice Chancellor NK Loknath's remarks that Kuvempu University got a large share from the state government in connection with pension grant Kuvempu University Vice Chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy stated that it is unjust and condemnable.

He said the issue of non-release of pension grant, which was causing hardship to retired employees for some years, has been temporarily resolved and the government has released retirement grant to six universities. Grants have been sanctioned to Mysore University, Karnataka University, Bangalore, Gulbarga, Mangalore and Kuvempu University.

He further explained that these six universities in the state are under financial burden, and the government's release of grants is welcome. There are more than 300 pensioners in Kuvempu University, and it has not been possible to give pension to employees who retired in the last five years. Kuvempu University had submitted a proposal for an additional grant of about Rs. 29 crore for pension, of which we have been released Rs. 15 crore. The rest of the financial burden continues as it is."

In this context, Prof Loknath's statement that Kuvempu University has benefited the most is unreasonable and I strongly oppose it. Instead of presenting his university's case to the government, it is condemnable that he makes light statements about other universities. If the government implements the pension facility in the HRMS system, this problem will be solved permanently, said Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy in a press release.
