<p>Kalaburagi: Few patients were left without oxygen for a few minutes after ventilators stopped working due to the disruption in power supply at Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) here on Sunday.</p><p>The ventilators of beds 1 and 2 of the ICU ward 429 on the 4th floor stopped working.</p>.Video alleges disruption of oxygen supply in Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences.<p>A female patient from Chittapur taluk, who was admitted with lung problems, and a male patient from Sedam taluk, who was admitted with cancer, were left without oxygen, said a relative of the patient.</p><p>The nurses have administered oxygen through the Bain circuit as the patients were struggling due to the ventilator shutdown. They continued to use the Bain circuit until the power supply was restored. Videos of the patients' relatives scolding the nurses due to the ventilator shutdown have gone viral in the social media. </p><p>A similar incident also took place in another ICU in front of the post-surgery ward. A patient from Shahapur taluk, who had been admitted to the ICU after consuming poison, was struggling due to the ventilator shutdown. The patient's brother said that oxygen was administered through the Bain circuit after he brought it to the notice of the nurses.</p><p>However, denying the reports that the ventilators had stopped working, the GIMS Director Dr Umesh S R claimed that the power supply was stopped for 10 minutes due to the fuse problem in the panel board and no patients were affected in the incident. </p><p>Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil said that the electrical pressure has been increased due to the rise in the number of beds including the ICU in the hospital. It has been suggested that the ventilator panels be replaced, he added.</p>
