Vidhana Soudha chalo on May 30

Anganwadi Workers’ Association state president S Varalakshmi said that a Vidhana Soudha Chalo rally will be organised on May 30, urging the government to strengthen the anganwadi system by introducing pre-school education.

The Association will oppose the move of the government to start LKG and UKG in government schools.

She told reporters that there were 62,000 anganwadi centres in the state with 1.25 lakh anganwadi workers and assistants serving these centres. “The introduction of LKG and UKG classes in government schools will affect the anganwadi centres. The notification issued by the state government should be withdrawn,” she added.

“We are not against imparting education to children. The decision has been taken without consulting anganwadis. Instead of deploying new teachers, let the government train anganwadi workers to teach in pre-schools,” she urged.
