After Bharat Mata issue, Kerala Governor's 'Partition Horror Day' directive sparks another row in state

Thiruvananthapuram: A directive by the Kerala Raj Bhavan to the universities in the state to observe August 14 as 'Partition horror day' has been termed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as yet another attempt to impose Sangh Parivar agenda in the state.

The fresh row could be seen as a sequel to the row over Governor Rajendra Arlekar insisting on placing picture of Bharatamba at official functions.

Raj Bhavan reportedly issued the circular to universities to observe the 'Partition horror day' as per an instruction of the union home ministry.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that it was against the Constitution that the Raj Bhavan was trying to impose the Sangh Parivar agenda of creating a division in the society. The universities should not be made the venue for such acts. The Governor's action is deplorable.

Earlier during the day, state education minister V Sivankutty and opposition leader V D Satheesan of the Congress also strongly flayed the Governor's directive.

Both of them questioned the Governor's authority in issuing such directives. Satheesan had also urged the state government to convey strong protest against such unconstitutional acts of the Governor.
