<p>Thiruvananthapuram: Various forums of Malayalam film industry on Monday staged a protest in front of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regional office in Thiruvananthapuram against the denial of permission for the release of union minister of state Suresh Gopi-starrer Malayalam film <em>Janaki v/s State of Kerala. </em></p><p>The Kerala High Court meanwhile, has asked the CBFC to clarify the reasons for the objection by Wednesday.</p><p>CBFC denied permission for the release of the film citing that the name 'Janaki' could not be allowed as it is another name of Lord Rama's wife Sita.</p><p>All prominent forums of film actors, film-makers, producers and film industry workers took part in the protest. Many known film personalities including national award winner actor Indrans took part in the day-long protest in front of the CBFC regional office.</p>.Decision to appoint Chandrasekhar as new Kerala police chief raises eyebrows.<p>Kerala Film Producers' Association president Rajaputra Ranjith said that not only the film industry, but the entire society should strongly resist such a tendency.</p><p>Film-maker Shaji Kailas said that he feared that there could be restriction in using his surname 'Kailas' in film if this unhealthy trend continued.</p><p>As part of the protest, posters of many films with names like 'Janaki' and names of other gods were also exhibited.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court asked the CBFC to clarify the reason for insisting on changing the name of the character 'Janaki'. The court pointed out that the title character in the film is playing the role of a woman fighting for justice. </p><p>Justice N Nagaresh, who was considering the petition filed by the film's production team, pointed out that 80 percent of the commonly used names would have some or other religious connotations. It is the freedom of filmmakers to choose name. Already there were many films with names of gods as title.</p><p>Even as the CBFC maintained that the film's title was a violation of a central government guideline, the HC asked the CBFC to clarify the objections and posted the case to Wednesday.</p><p>Sources said that even as the CBFC regional office cleared the film, the CBFC headquarters in Mumbai raised the objection. Union minister Suresh Gopi, who plays the lead role of a lawyer in the film, is yet to react. Anupama Parameswaran is playing the role of 'Janaki' in the film which is directed by Pravin Narayanan.</p>
