<p>A newly recruited militant affiliated with Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit was killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.</p>.<p>“#BaramullaEncounterUpdate: Killed #terrorist has been identified as Irshad Ahmd Bhat of Pattan #Baramulla, active since 5/2022 & linked with proscribed #terror outfit LeT. 01 AK rifle, 2 magazines & 30 rounds recovered (sic),” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.</p>.<p>Earlier, security forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in the Binner area of the district on Saturday evening on the basis of ‘specific’ information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.</p>.<p>The search operation turned into an encounter after the militant opened fire at the security forces, who retaliated in which Irshad Bhat, who had joined the LeT in May this year was killed, he said.</p>.<p>This came just a day after a militant was killed in a similar encounter in Wanigam Bala village of the same district. Two army soldiers and a policeman were also injured in the gunfight.</p>.<p>This year over 120 militants, including Pakistanis have been killed in different encounters with security forces. The police said that the majority of those killed so far this year belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba, and JeM.</p>.<p>Over 40 militants who died this year so far were fresh recruits and were killed within the first three months of joining the militant ranks.</p>
