In a shocking incident, a man chopped off one of his fingers alleging police inaction vis-a-vis the investigation into the suicide of his brother and sister-in-law, who had ended their life in Ulhasnagar town in Thane district a fortnight ago.

On August 1, Nandkumar Nanaware and his wife Ujjwala ended their lives by jumping off the third floor of a flat in Camp 4 of Ashale Pada in Ulhasnagar. The duo took this step after recording an over five-minute video clip, in which they named several people to be responsible for the suicide.

Nanaware, who had worked as PA for a couple of politicians, had named some influential people in the video.

The Vitthalwadi police station has registered a case of abetment to suicide against eight persons.

On Friday, Nanaware’s brother Dhananjay Nanaware (43), who is based in Phaltan in Satara, chopped off one of his fingers in protest.

After that the Thane police swung into action and arrested four persons.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked the police to carry out the investigations and ensure that Dhananjay is treated properly.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Nana Patole slammed the government for the incident.

“Dhananjay has indicated that until justice is served, every week, he will cut off a part of his body and send it to the Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is the Home Minister,” said Patole, in a press statement.

“The ruling party's MPs and MLAs are openly involved in unlawful activities like bullying or intimidating people. The son of an MLA from the Shinde group in Mumbai kidnapped and assaulted an officer; another MLA opened fire; one MLA is even threatening to gouge out an officers' eyes. Ministers in the Union cabinet are threatening people to put them in place. Due to the harassment by ruling party's MLAs, MPs, and their associates, Nandakumar Nanavare from Ulhasnagar died by suicide,” Patole said.
