Mumbai: At least six persons died and few others sustained minor injuries when a massive fire broke out at a gloves-manufacturing unit in the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district of Maharashtra on Sunday.
The fire broke out in the unit at MIDC area in Waluj in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, earlier known as Aurangabad.
Around a dozen workers were present in the resting facility of the unit when the incident took place.
The fire broke out between 0100 hrs to 0130 hrs past midnight, reports reaching here said.
Minister for Employment Guarantee Scheme and Horticulture Sandipan Bhumre visited the spot and inspected the site.
“It is an unfortunate incident and six persons have died,” Bhumre said, adding that the exact cause of the fire is not yet known. “In indepth investigation would be conducted,” he said, adding that the plot was for industrial use and not for residential purpose, but unfortunately, the workers were living there. “What was the reason would be found out,” he added.
While six of the workers perished in the fire, six to eight others managed to escape.
“The cause of the incident would be investigated,” said Chhattrapati Sambhaji Nagar Police Commissioner Manoj Lohia.
The bodies have been sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
