Sunjay Kapur property case: Supreme Court seeks Karisma Kapoor's reply on plea for divorce settlement copy

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday sought a response from Karisma Kapoor on a plea filed by Priya Sachdev Kapur seeking a certified copy of the divorce settlement arrived at in 2016 in the top court between her late husband Sunjay Kapur and the Bollywood actor.

At present, Priya Sachdeva Kapur, widow of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, is fighting a legal battle in the Delhi High Court.

In September last year, the two children of actor Karisma Kapoor approached the high court seeking shares in their late father Sunjay Kapur's assets and challenged his March 21, 2025 Will, which purportedly leaves his entire personal estate to their step-mother, Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Priya Kapur on Friday told the apex court that her client is the legally wedded wife and a direct legal heir of the deceased industrialist. She has sought certified copies of the complete record of Transfer Petition (Civil) No. 214 of 2016, which arose from Sunjay Kapur's divorce proceedings with Karisma Kapoor.

According to the plea, access to the confidential court records is required for use in pending succession proceedings before the Delhi High Court and is essential to safeguard her legal rights in relation to Sunjay Kapur's estate. The application stated that the request was bona fide and directly connected to the determination of succession and inheritance issues.

In her plea, she stated she required the divorce-related documents for official use in connection with the pending succession proceedings before the Delhi High Court.

The counsel, appearing for Karisma Kapoor, however, opposed the plea, describing it as frivolous and an attempt to access personal and confidential information.

Considering the submissions of Karisma and Priya, the court directed the actress, to place her objections on record and granted her two weeks' time to file a detailed response. The court said, it will hear the case again, after receiving reply from her.
