Maharashtra civic elections results LIVE | BMC polls vote counting to commence at 10 am today

The counting of votes for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections will start at 10 am today. Civic commissioner Bhushan Gagrani told reporters on Thursday that due to the short gap between polling and counting, the counting of votes for all civic wards will start at 10 am on Friday.

This could result in the declaration of results later than usual.

Maharashtra civic polls recorded 54.77 per cent voter turnout: SEC

A voter turnout of 54.77 per cent was recorded in the elections held for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra a day before, with the newly-formed Ichalkaranji civic body logging the highest polling percentage at 69.76 per cent, the poll body said on Friday.

Mumbai recorded a voter turnout of 52.94 per cent, according to data shared by the State Election Commission.

At 48.64 per cent, the Mira-Bhayandar civic body recorded the lowest polling percentage in the state.

Counting of votes for the elections is currently underway. (PTI)

The Maharashtra State Election Commission late Friday evening declared results for 2,784 of the 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations in the state, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the single largest party by winning 1,372 seats.

Results of the remaining 85 seats are expected to be announced later in the night, an official said. Data released by the SEC showed that the BJP secured 1,372 seats, followed by Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena with 394 seats, Congress with 315 seats, Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with 158 seats, and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) winning 149 seats. Breaking the nearly three-decade-old dominance of the undivided Shiv Sena, the BJP on Friday emerged victorious in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, and also vanquished the alliance of NCP factions led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar in the Pune civic body. Results of elections in all the 227 wards in Mumbai were declared around midnight. The BJP won 89 and ally Shiv Sena bagged 29 seats, while Shiv Sena (UBT) got 65 and MNS six seats.
