<p>Chennai: Stand-up comedian <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/kunal-kamra">Kunal Kamra</a>’s interim protection from arrest was on Monday extended till April 17 by the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/madras-high-court">Madras High Court</a> in connection with a FIR filed against him in Mumbai for his comments on Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. </p><p>Justice Sunder Mohan, who granted interim anticipatory bail to Kamra on March 28, had posted the matter for April 7. When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the judge asked whether notice was served to the jurisdictional police in Mumbai to which the comedian’s counsel, V Suresh, replied in the affirmative.</p><p>The counsel told the court that three fresh FIRs have been filed against Kamra in connection with the remarks he made on Shinde since the last hearing. He also alleged that Mumbai Police had harassed Kamra’s aged parents besides taking the names of people who attended the show.</p><p>After listening to the comedian’s counsel, the judge posted the matter for April 17. His comments sparked an outrage with Shiv Sena cadres vandalising the club where Kamra performed and the police asked the comedian to appear before it on March 31. Police have also arrested 12 Shiv Sena cadres.</p><p>Kamra’s counsel had argued that the comedian had not explicitly named anyone during his performance and defended his act as a satire.</p>
