Hyderabad: The Telangana cabinet meeting has been postponed as the government did not receive permission from the Election Commission of India. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had earlier convened the cabinet meeting on Saturday afternoon.

As the election code is in force, the government had sought the EC's permission for the cabinet meeting. However, the government did not receive permission from the EC even till Saturday night.

The Chief Minister and all the ministers had all reached the Secretariat in the afternoon and had waited for the EC's permission. State Chief Secretary and top officials of all departments were also present to attend the cabinet meeting.

As there was no response from the EC till 7 pm, the cabinet meeting was postponed and the CM and ministers eventually left the Secretariat.

The government had already prepared the agenda to discuss several issues; namely farm loan waiver scheme, paddy procurement, action plan for the ensuing Kharif season and other important issues related to farmers in the cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister said that the cabinet could not discuss the farmers welfare and other emergency issues.

Revanth also decided to discuss the state formation day celebrations on June 2, pending bifurcation related key issues between the two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh under the AP Reorganization Act 2014 on the occasion of completion of 10 years of the bifurcation of the state in the cabinet meeting. No issue was discussed as the government deferred the cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister decided to hold a cabinet meeting only after the EC gave permission. The government will wait for EC permission till Monday. If the EC does not respond, the ministers delegation will go to New Delhi and meet the Central Election Commission, if required , and seek the EC permission to hold the cabinet meeting.
