The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday witnessed uproarious scenes after a combined Opposition disrupted the proceedings of the House in protest against sexual exploitation of girls at a shelter home in Deoria and demanded discussion on the same.

Opposition members, who waved posters and banners to register their protest on the issue, trooped into the Well of the house and shouted anti-government slogans.

As repeated pleas by the speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit for restoring order fell on deaf ears, the house was adjourned for the day.

The government tabled a supplementary budget amounting to Rs 34,000 crore amid the din.

Later, speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Opposition of not allowing the new members to put forth their views on different issues.

He also said that the state government had acted swiftly on the Deoria shelter home abuse case and the accused persons were in jail.
