BJP names 10 more candidates from West Bengal

BJP on Tuesday declared candidates for 20 seats out of which 10 are from West Bengal. With the latest list, BJP has declared candidates for 41 seats in the state.

The announcement comes at a time when discontent is brewing among section of party workers and leaders in the state due to the delay in declaring the complete candidate list.

BJP has fielded former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Humayun Kabir from Murshidabad Lok Sabha which is currently held by CPI(M). They have fielded state vice president Subhash Sarkar from the Bakura Lok Sabha seat. Sarkar will be pitted against TMC’s heavyweight candidate and state’s Minister Subrata Mukherjee.

Former film star Joy Banerjee has will contest on a BJP ticket from the Uluberia constituency. Apart from party leaders, BJP has also fielded former journalist Rantidev Sen Gupta from the Howrah Lok Sabha seat.

The state BJP leadership is currently struggling with discontent among party workers for favouring turncoats over party leaders who have worked for BJP for a long time. The party has already fielded TMC MLA Arjun Singh, expelled TMC MPs Soumitra Kha and Anupam Hazra.

Earlier, BJP replaced Union Minister S S Ahluwalia and fielded Raju Singh Bisht.
