"We will form the government again," Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal exuded confidence on Saturday, on a day the Opposition Congress launched "Assam Bachao" campaign with a target to unseat the BJP-led government in the state.

"Since we came to power, we tried to promote unity and brotherhood among all communities and castes and at the same time build the platform for development. We established peace by signing agreement with the insurgents and ensured that all communities got the share of development," Sonowal said while speaking on the last session of the state Assembly of his tenure on Saturday. Sonowal was replying to the Cut Motion moved by the Opposition parties against the Vote on Account tabled by the government on Friday.

Assam goes for Assembly elections in April. BJP is going ahead with its alliance with Asom Gana Parishad and United People's Party Liberal while Congress joined hands with Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF and stitched a "grand alliance" of six parties for the polls.

"People of Assam are angry with BJP's failure to control prices of essential commodities. They also failed to solve the burning issues of the state and at the same time created division among people on religious lines. So people are eagerly waiting to vote against BJP and elect a government of the "grand alliance" led by Congress," Kaliabor MP and Congress leader, Gaurav Gogoi said.

The party launched a campaign named "Assam Bachao," under which the party is seeking suggestions from people for the issues they want to be included in the manifesto to be prepared by the "grand alliance."
