<p class="title">Hosur, the industrial town located close to Bengaluru, and Nagercoil would soon be upgraded as municipal corporation with the Tamil Nadu government tabling legislations in this regard in the Assembly.</p>.<p class="bodytext">If the bills are passed, the number of municipal corporations in the state would rise to 14 from the existing 12. Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Salem, Vellore, Tiruppur, Thoothukudi, Erode, Thanjavur and Dindigul are the existing municipal corporations in the state.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The bills to upgrade Hosur and Nagercoil municipalities were introduced in the House by Local Administration Minister S P Velumani. The bills are likely to be taken up on Thursday for debate and passing. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had earlier promised that the government would take steps to upgrade the municipalities into a corporation.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Hosur is an industrial town, which is home to several industries like TVS, and is located just 35 kms from Bengaluru, the Karnataka capital. Increasing population, revenue and nature of development works are reasons behind the government’s decision to upgrade these two municipalities.</p>
