This feat has been achieved after 20 years. Anumula Jithendar Reddy and Uday K Shah, both students of city-based Narayana Group of Educational Institutions, stood first and second, respectively. Besides, Praveen Kumar of AP bagged the first rank in physically challenged category.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Wednesday congratulated the two youngsters, saying, they had done their state proud. “You have done not only your family and educational institutions proud but also Andhra Pradesh, by securing top ranks in the general category,” he said.
The toppers include A Jhitender Reddy (all-India topper), Uday Shah (2nd rank), Madhu Kiran (4th), Sathwik (6th), Sabreesh Nikhil (8th) and Neeraj Gopal (9th rank).

Another feather in the AP cap is that as many as 26 students from remote parts of the state, who were provided special coaching for such competitive examinations under a government scheme, also secured good ranks in the IIT-JEE to bag the seats in IITs. Of these, seven students belong to the Scheduled Castes and 15 to Scheduled Tribes, while two each belonged to the physically-challenged and other categories.

Attributing the success to his family and teachers, first ranker Jitender Reddy said, “the guidance of my parents and our institution has paved the way for success and I thank them.” Reddy appeared in the exam from IIT Madras zone, which has the second-largest number of students, 2,619, clearing the exam this year.

The third rank was held by Delhi’s Himanshu Gupta, who is the only student from the national capital in the list of top 10. Gupta also received his coaching at Narayana in its Delhi branch.

According to the Hyderabad-based Narayana coaching centre here, as many as 68 of its students figured in the top 100 ranks. “This splendid performance is the result of hard work of our boys and the high-quality coaching by our teachers,’ said P Narayana, chairman of the Narayana Group. “What is important is the industry quotient.. intelligence is enhanced by industry,” he said.

“This year’s results are extraordinary considering the fact that during the last 20 years only one student from Andhra Pradesh could get first rank,” he said.

Another Hyderabad-based corporate colleges group Sri Chaitanya also produced impressive results, bagging four ranks in the top 10 and 21 in top 100.
