Just got married, Tej Pratap files divorce petition

In a shocking development, which could have wide political ramifications in Bihar, Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap filed a divorce petition in a family court here on Friday.

Tej was married to Aishwarya Rai, daughter of RJD MLA Chandrika Rai, and granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai, on May 12 this year.

The marriage between two influential families was a mega event as Lalu, serving sentence in fodder scam, was granted parole to attend his son’s wedding.

In his petition (Case No 1208/2018), Tej, who earlier served as Bihar Health Minister in Nitish Cabinet, has alleged harassment at the hands of Aishwarya. The case, filed in the court of Justice Uma Shankar Dwivedi, will be heard on November 29.

Aishwarya’s father Chandrika Rai, who was also earlier a minister in the previous Grand Alliance Government headed by Nitish, soon rushed to the residence of Rabri Devi. Though Chandrika avoided media, but sources in the family refuted reports about the divorce petition filed in the family court.

“Tej Pratap has today left for Ranchi to meet his ailing father Lalu Prasad who is recuperating at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS),” said a family source here in Patna, refusing to elaborate on the divorce petition.
