Union Home Minister Amit Shah Thursday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by saying that she is ‘friends with dengue and malaria’ and the state will not get rid of the diseases until she is in power.

In his address, he asked the people of the poll-bound state whether they want to see the development of Bengal or the development of the Mamata’s nephew.

“You won't get rid of malaria until Didi leaves. She's friends with dengue and malaria. Vote for us, we'll eradicate diseases in 2 years... On one hand, PM Modi is working for tribal welfare, while Didi is working for her nephew. Who do you want?” Shah said in a rally in Bengal’s Jhargram.

Highlighting the prevalence of dengue and malaria in the area, the senior BJP leader said, "if you want to get rid of dengue and malaria, you have to defeat Didi in the elections. She has a special affinity with dengue and malaria, and that is why she has done nothing to address the problem here."

Accusing the TMC of running a "corrupt dispensation", Shah said the BJP will end the "cut money" culture in Bengal.

Noting that the TMC government has neglected the Adivasis (tribals) and Kurmi caste voters, Shah said if voted to power, then every Kurmi and Adivasi families will get one job each. "We will provide jobs to each Adivasi and Kurmi families of the state. The Adivasis don't get MSP for their produce; we will include their produces in the list of crops so that they also qualify for MSP," he said.

In their rallies, Shah and PM Narendra Modi have been pitching the development of tribal people in the state. West Bengal will go to polls in a phased manner, with the first phase scheduled to be held on March 27.
