Man nabbed for rape of 9-year-old

The Rajkot Police on Monday nabbed a man for raping and sodomising a nine-year-old girl.

According to information available, a complaint was filed in the Gandhigram area that a 9-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour.

The complaint was registered by mother of the girl. The mother, a widow, had said that her neighbour, 24-year-old Kamlesh alias Murli Bharwad, had lured her daughter into his house on the pretext of showing her television and sodomised and raped her.

"We have arrested the culprit and he has confessed to having committed the crime," Harshad Bhatt, assistant commissioner, Rajkot, told media persons.

"He also confessed to having committed the act twice a fortnight ago and threatened the girl not to inform anyone. He had even threatened her of repeated attacks if she opened her mouth," Bhatt said.

The mother of the child approached the women's police station in the University area after her daughter underwent ghastly experience again on late Sunday evening and narrated the pain she had to undergo.

The police have nabbed the culprit, a resident of Shastrinagar area of the city, who was on the run and has begun detailed investigations into the incident.

The culprit has been booked under various sections pertaining to rape, including sections 376, 377, 354 (A) of the IPC and under sections 6 & 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, an officer from the University police station said.
