Misri is new envoy to China

India has appointed senior diplomat Vikram Misri as its new ambassador to China.

Misri, an officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, is currently posted in Yangon as India's ambassador to Myanmar. The Ministry of External Affairs formally announced his appointment as India's ambassador to China on Friday.

He will succeed Gautam Bambawale who will retire in November.

Misri earlier served as India's envoy to Spain from August 2014 to August 2016. He was joint secretary in the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi from March 2012 to October 2012.

He was private secretary to former prime minister Manmohan Singh from October 2012 to May 2014 and to his successor and incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from May 2014 till July 2014.

He was earlier posted at India's diplomatic and consular missions in Belgium, Tunisia, Pakistan, US, Sri Lanka and Germany.
